SPLASH DAY!!

Good Tuesday morning!

SIGMACHI is supposed to "splash" at Deltaville Boat Yard later today and we will be there by late afternoon!

Our front room looks like a staging area for flood relief!  Boat supplies...

It is all the first provisioning stuff for our "new to us" 40 ft Pacemaker  Flush Deck, Fly Bridge, Motor Yacht that the team at DBY is readying for us!

The "monsoon like torrential rains"  that have plagued much of the East Coast have not spared slowing the outside operations at DBY...Jeanne and I are so thankful for a clearing in weather to get us launched for the Southern Chesapeake Bay Chapter "cruise in/drive in" for 4 days at Deltaville Marina.  Even though refitting is just 1/2 complete we are happy to start our cruising adventure with such a pleasurable and knowledgeable camaraderie  of folks!

'tis boating, beach and gardening season in Tidewater, Virginia.  My favorite educationnal entity, Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS),  has a full agenda of educational and fun activities for the public that relate not only to the out of doors but to our Virginia lifestyles that are intermixed with the Chesapeake Bay and it's tributaries. Most are at the VIMS main campus at Gloucester Point, VA.

A "World Class Marine Biology Center" for teaching and research, VIMS is part of the College of William and Mary.....one of the oldest and most revered universities in America. Located on the northern shores of the York River at Gloucester Point it is about an hour from Kilmarnock, Deltaville, Matthews, Norfolk, or Hampton.  Hmm, Gloucester Point?  Yep, Up the York River and Just East of the Coleman Bridge...Yorktown on the Port side and on the northern ( Starboard) side is Glouster Point where Cornwallis tried to escape the American and French besiegement of his troops at the seminal Revolutionary War battle of Yorktown. Just up the road from Gloucester Point is the historical Abington Episcopal Church.  Unknown British soldiers remains from the Battle of Gloucester Point lie in a common grave in the ancient church's cemetery. (see pictures)

Whilst we ready SIGMACHI for cruising we plan to visit VIMS often this summer season.

See ya on the Bay!

Tight Lines!
