Two nights at Sloop Creek at anchor
Such a nice, tucked away anchorage! But don't anchor - it is too shallow. We voluntarily stayed here two nights just to chill out, rest, whatever you want to call it. After all, we are not in a race or anything like that. Just heading south to get warm. When we finally pulled anchor (and I mean pulled....) to tackle a few more miles going south, we discovered that, just because you are going south, it doesn't mean it keeps getting warmer! What is wrong with this picture? We are headed south and it is getting COLDER!!!! Brrr.... But at least our forecasts are NOT for snow and an icy mix like our neighbors at home.
Alan had planned for us to anchor at South Port but I started looking at places just before South Port because everything at South Port that was free or an anchorage specified one or two boats. What if we get there and there isn't room for us??? It will be getting dark and I, at least, am tired. Alan seems to be indefatigable! So I saw a place right off the ICW, easy access, deck hands to help tie up, all the amenities, protected area, all words that warmed the cockells of my heart (and by now I could really use some warming). Deep (after fighting shallow waters for quite a while now, that word "deep" really sounded good!) Pointe Marina. I mentioned it to Alan and he started looking for it. I called, they gave directions, and wallah!!!, there they were. We docked easily and quickly with helpers there to greet us and, best of all, our steps are right outside our door!!! We don't need to step over a moving chasm of water to reach them, don't need to fasten a rope to a cleat to use to pull the boat closer so we could reach the steps, all we had to do, miracles of miracles, was to step off the boat!!! Electric right here and hooked up lickety-split by the deck hand, trash receptacle nearby, water right here with a hose already on it (I can feel that nice hot shower in our on boat bathroom right now), free wi-fi, I am in heaven!!! Just one teeny weeny concern. Right next to us is where the ferry to Bald Island comes in every hour. Alan mentions that a friend had told him, no matter what you do, don't get gas at Bald Island. It is VERY expensive. While we are obviously not at Bald Island, are we close enough for that word expensive to bleed over onto this marina??? Cause we are right next to the gas also and it would be nice to fill up again. Try as I might, I can't find any information anywhere on the price of our overnight stay or the gas. We plan on going to the marina office tomorrow morning to pay. Will we be able to then get back on board our boat or will they take every cent we have????? Stay tuned folks.
