SIGMACHI: VIEWS FROM THE CREW to fellow recreational sailors, boaters, and several friends...Chinese Flu...Sailing (Boating too) and ..Being An Optimist!

Good  early morning from the M/V SIGMACHI  anchored in what Jeanne and I consider the most beautiful and serene anchorage we have found yet on the AICW.  I'm sure others have their favorite spots!

This little bit of Mother Nature's "Best" is an alternative route...a creek off of the Waccamaw River ...about 25 miles North of Georgetown, SC..  Deep water, a free moving current, wide width, and woodlands on either side..all absent any signs of civilization.  It was a destination anchorage for SIGMACHI.

Yes, I realize that I have been remiss in posting my blog.  I will catch up some day soon...

As we chug along powered by our recently refurbished J&T  DD 671Ns headed to the Chesapeake Bay country we are constantly reminded by  the MSM of the Chinese Virus "epic of the day" only by the occasional TV that we watch or the headlines on the Internet forums.  Cruising in my 40' Pacemaker is the realization of a lifetime ambition.

Having my loving and adventure oriented Co-Captain wife, Jeanne, is fun!  Jeanne is not only an invaluable member of the crew...she continues an active real estate business daily via Internet and cell phone communications.

I try to keep "up to date" with my two boating organizations (AGLCA & MTOA) by reading their forums each day or so.

Another boating electronic publication that I peruse is CRUISERS FORUM.  Yesterday, Tarian (from Scotland) posted the accompanying  observation about the Chinese Flu and its effects on boating.  That post jarred me to share it with my "audience " on this blog.

Here is Tarian's post on NOT Being a Pessimist:

"The COVID influence on Future Cruising

Goodness me what a bunch of pessimists , I'm off on the 9th of July for 5 weeks cruising around my waters good to get away from it all and the news which is as dreary as a dead duck .
Viruses come and go and this one is no different, the death rate around the world is so low there are zeros in front of it, remember there are 7 billion people on this world only 400,000 have died sadly.(approx figures)
We have great hope in a vaccine, Oxford University are in phase three trial and Astra Zenica have already started to make the vaccine up in large batches , even before they know it is 100% safe . there is another vaccine coming out of Imperial college London starting phase 1 trials and is also looking good, so Next year with hope and fingers crossed their will be a vaccine and this will be all over and people can get back to their sailing , no problems at all ,
As a retired biologist I Research and keep up to date with covid and am confident that a vaccine will be produced this year and start of next year roll out, Have faith in the scientists they have not failed you yet for the vaccines to some o the worst spreading viruses in the world , MEASLES COMES TO MIND, WHICH KILLS MORE IN THE WORLD THAN COVID WILL."
