Great day yesterday..Made about 57 miles from our anchorage near Bell Point in Currituck Sound, past Coinjock, NC into the legendary potential rough waters of the Albemarle Sound. Jeanne and I decided to make up some time and  bypass the Albemarle Loop until next Spring so we might spend more time at the charming host towns.  Also, maybe the infamous "duck weed" will not be proliferating the historic Dismal Swamp Canal in late April or early May.(SIGMACHI has NO internal raw water intake filters and there no room to conveniently plumb them in.) The A-P Canal is a long straight water passageway leading southward toward our destination today.  We'll take the Tyler's recommendation and tie up at the city's downtown dock....two blocks is about our walking distance...Bikes? Yes, we have folding JUPITER electric bikes...BUT, it came as a surprise to me when the bikes were delivered to us that I'd lost my balance on bikes since/do to my spine surgery last March!  Aga...

We are truly on our way South aboard SIGMACHI...Jeanne, Alan, and Molly(our cat)...Today we crossed State lines we are in North Carolina! Jeanne and I anchored Sigmachi at Bell Pt. in Currituck Sound... about 70' of anchor rode in about 10' of water..55# Mantus  anchor deployed. Just SW of where the Knotts Island/Currituck ferry crosses Currituck Sound, North Carolina. Wind tonight supposed to be 5 MPH...we are in the lee of the mainland on the West. We left late from Chesapeake because of fog. Will proceed past Coinjock, NCand cross Albemarle Sound tomorrow for Alligator River. Wind supposed to be light in morning out of the N. E. Filled fuel tanksat Atlantic Yacht Basis this morning with 89 gal of diesel.  We loaded up at Olverson's Lodge Creek Marina  when we started the trip on the Yeocomico River off of the Potomac River ...Northern Neck of VA.  I think that's pretty good for JT 671Ns diesels going at an average of 7.6 mph. While staying at Atlantic Yacht Basin I h...

Good, Morning from SIGMACHI! WE ARE ANCHORED IN A SNUG BEND IN COCKRELL CREEK, REEDVILLE, VA. This AM Smith Point Sea Rescue towed a boat in here.  Very foggy and the smooth seas are about to pick up dramatically  It would be about 25 miles to Jackson Creek on the South side of Deltaville for our comfortable passage...if there were no fog.  Winds are forecast to really pick up around 2 pm. SO, We are here to stay...maybe til Friday or Saturday. By the Way...this dark sky.net ..I like it to supplement the official NOAA forecast. Tight Lines And Merry Christmas! From Alan : Sigmachi View from the crew...Getting ready for first ICWW trip to Florida

SIGMACHI, is "on the hard" (and safe) at Krentz Marine Railway in Callao, Virginia to have her bottom painted with tropical formula, the anchor windlass repaired, as measured up for installation of a generator. Jeanne and Alan hope to take her South in late October. First stop will be Alan's former town, Norfolk, then head via the Dismal Swamp Canal to Elizabeth City, NC to "start" the Albermarle Sound Loop and then make a southward turn to Florida. Perhaps the Florida jaunt will take them to Jacksonville and "up" the St. John's River, then south to maybe Jupiter.  Then maybe take the canal through Lake Okeechobee and to Ft. Meyers. After that they may head south on the west coast of Florida, to Florida Bay then down to the Keys. They hope to attend a big party for AGLCA "Loopers" that friends throw every February at Banana Bay Resort in Marathon. Eventually they will come northward on the east coast of Florida back to ...

News From SIGMACHI

Greetings from Alan and Jeanne...SIGMACHI Views from the crew 19/09/12 Today was doctor day for me at the University of MD in Baltimore City. The University of Maryland Medical Center is a sprawling world class facility in downtown Baltimore. I have come to regard it and my medical team as "family!"  Today I was at the Endrocolongy,  Neurosurgery,  and Cardiology departments for checkups. As a glorious serendipity event ...I was recognized in the Medical Center by a solidly good friend from my Annapolis days...Carla (Cronin) Howell; it's been years! It was March 24th when I has my very complicated back surgery.  I now use a cane ...however there is no more of the excruciating pain that I endured with my lower spinal cord being encapsulated by arthritis (spinal stenosis).  There were other spinal complications for Dr. Charles Sansur to deal with during the 8 hour procedure.  He is avery nice person and a magnificent neurosurgeon.  I recommend him highly!!! Tomorrow, (Frida...

M/V SIGMACHI [Summer Cruising Season Is Here!] Revolutionary War Shipwreck Discovered —

Good evening from Alan.   I'm aboard my Sigmachi now at it's new Chesapeake Bay summer home...Olverson's Lodge Creek Marina  off of the Yeocomico River on  Virginia's Northern Neck adjacent to the southern side of the Potomac River. Yesterday, Wednesday, Jeanne and I left Deltaville Boatyard/Deltaville Marina on Jackson Creek where SIGMACHI had been undergoing some major refitting of her HVAC system and some other ancillary parts for a year. The 671-N twin Detroit Diesels ran most of the 56 miles flawlessly @ 1900 rpm averaging 11 mph for the 40 ft legacy Pacemaker flush deck flying bridge yacht.   This was our maiden voyage; just 3 months after my major back surgery. Local knowledge expert and Olverson's Marina manager, Steven Trice, was prudently at the helm.  The big event for the day was the nearly calm Chesapeake Bay with a light breeze out of the NE which combined with the perfectly running  Detroit Diesels made for an inaugural success of a transfer of operat...
